Today’s Tip: Clean and Dry Your Shower Squeegee

Remove soap film and trapped residue from the squeegee blade, handle, and holder, then dry the tool before storing it.

Published November 1, 2026

A shower squeegee helps clear water from glass and tile, but its blade edge, handle seams, and wall holder can collect soap film, hair, and moisture. Today’s focused reset cleans the tool itself so it is ready for the next use without leaving old residue behind.

Your step-by-step squeegee reset

  1. Make sure the shower or tub is not in use, turn off the water, and let hot surfaces cool. Move bottles and loose items out of the work area, and stand on a dry, stable surface rather than inside a wet tub or shower.
  2. Read the squeegee manufacturer’s care instructions. Remove the tool from its hook, suction holder, or adhesive mount without forcing the hardware, and detach only the parts specifically designed for user removal.
  3. Rinse or wipe away loose hair and surface debris. Inspect the rubber or silicone blade, handle, fasteners, and holder for splits, curled edges, sharp burrs, looseness, cracks, or trapped residue that cannot be reached safely.
  4. Wash the approved surfaces with warm water, a soft cloth or brush, and a small amount of compatible cleaner. Run the cloth gently along both sides of the blade and clean the handle seams and holder without bending the edge or using abrasive pads or sharp tools.
  5. Rinse or wipe away cleaning product as directed. Clean the accessible wall hook or holder only with a method approved for its material and mounting system, keeping excess moisture away from adhesive edges, wall seams, electrical controls, and damaged grout or caulk.
  6. Dry the blade, handle, and holder completely with a clean cloth, then allow any remaining moisture to air-dry. Reassemble the tool without forcing parts and hang it where the blade can drain and air can circulate instead of leaving it flat on a wet ledge.

Keep the blade ready between cleanings

Rinse the edge after use, shake off excess water inside the shower area, and hang the squeegee so the blade is not pressed against a surface. Wipe the holder during routine shower cleaning, and replace the blade or tool when it becomes split, permanently curled, loose, or difficult to clean.

Safety note

Never stand on a wet tub edge, shower ledge, or improvised platform to reach a holder. Do not mix cleaning chemicals or use bleach, acids, solvents, abrasives, or another product unless both the cleaner label and squeegee instructions permit it. Keep sharp tools away from the blade and your hands, and do not continue using a squeegee with a cracked handle, loose metal, sharp edge, or failing wall mount. Keep cleaning products and removable pieces away from children and pets. Stop and seek appropriate repair guidance if the holder pulls at the wall, the adhesive fails, tile is loose, or you find damaged grout, caulk, wiring, significant moisture damage, or suspected mold.
