Today’s Tip: Refresh Your Bathroom Scale

Remove dust and residue from your bathroom scale’s platform, edges, and feet while keeping moisture away from its display and electronics.

Published October 23, 2026

A bathroom scale sits close to the floor, where dust, hair, and small splashes can collect around its platform and feet. Today’s focused reset cleans this often-overlooked item without soaking its sensors or electronic parts.

Your step-by-step bathroom scale refresh

  1. Move the scale to a dry, well-lit work area and read its care instructions. If it uses batteries, turn it off as directed; remove batteries only when the manufacturer recommends doing so for cleaning.
  2. Inspect the platform, display, feet, and battery cover for cracks, chips, corrosion, leakage, or loose parts. Do not continue using a glass scale with a crack or an electronic scale with battery leakage or other damage.
  3. Remove loose dust and hair with a clean, dry microfiber cloth or soft brush. Pay attention to the edges and around the feet without pressing into openings or disturbing sensors.
  4. Lightly dampen a soft cloth with the manufacturer-approved cleaning solution. Wipe the platform first, then the sides and accessible underside, applying cleaner to the cloth rather than spraying the scale.
  5. Use a separate lightly dampened cloth for the feet and base so floor residue is not transferred back to the standing surface. Keep liquid away from the display, seams, battery compartment, charging port, and other openings.
  6. Wipe away cleaning residue as directed and dry every surface completely. Return the scale to a hard, level, dry floor, confirm that all feet sit flat, and allow it to reset or calibrate according to its instructions before use.

Keep the scale ready to use

Give the platform a quick dry wipe during regular bathroom cleaning and move the scale away from puddles, direct shower spray, and damp bath mats. A clean, level storage spot makes future care easier and helps prevent slips or trapped moisture.

Safety note

Never immerse a scale or spray cleaner directly onto it. Do not use abrasive pads, sharp scrapers, solvents, or products not approved for its materials. Never mix cleaning chemicals. Handle glass platforms with care and replace a cracked or chipped scale according to the manufacturer’s guidance. Wear gloves and follow proper battery-handling directions if you find corrosion or leakage; keep damaged batteries and cleaning supplies away from children and pets. Do not stand on the scale until it and the surrounding floor are completely dry, and follow its stated weight limit and placement instructions.
