Pet feeding areas can collect water spots, crumbs, loose kibble, and sticky residue. Today’s quick reset focuses on the bowls, mat, and floor around the station so the area is clean and ready for the next meal.
Your step-by-step feeding station reset
- Move your pet to another area and discard old food or water according to your normal pet-care routine.
- Pick up loose kibble and crumbs before using moisture. Sweep or vacuum the floor around and beneath the feeding station.
- Check the care instructions for each bowl. Wash bowls with hot, soapy water or place dishwasher-safe bowls in the dishwasher, then rinse and dry them completely.
- Wash or wipe the feeding mat according to its material. Pay attention to raised edges and grooves where food and moisture can collect.
- Clean the floor with a product approved for the surface. Wipe away all cleaner residue and dry the area fully before returning the mat.
- Refill the bowls only after your hands, the bowls, the mat, and the surrounding floor are clean and dry.
Keep the area manageable
Wipe spills when they happen, remove scattered food daily, and place the feeding station on a washable mat large enough to catch drips and crumbs. Store pet food in its original bag inside a clean, dry container if the manufacturer recommends it.
Safety note
Use a separate cloth or sponge for pet items instead of the one used for human dishes. Wash your hands before and after handling pet food and bowls, follow the food and bowl manufacturers’ care directions, and never mix cleaning chemicals. Keep your pet away until the floor is dry and every cleaning product is put away.
